This volume of the WHO handbook for the development of normative products provides detailed methodological guidance to support the development of evidence-informed WHO normative products. As part of a four-volume handbook, it focuses on the methods used to identify, assess, synthesize and apply evidence in the formulation of normative statements and guidance. The publication supports WHO’s quality assurance system for normative work and is intended for technical officers, researchers, guideline developers, policy-makers and members of expert and steering groups involved in normative product development. The volume addresses a range of research and evidence synthesis methodologies, including scoping reviews, systematic reviews, rapid reviews, qualitative evidence synthesis, multiple intervention comparisons, network meta-analysis, evidence assessment and the use of mathematical modelling studies.
