This report summarizes the proceedings and outcomes of a WHO stakeholder consultative meeting held in October 2021 to review current evidence and identify priorities for the prevention and management of childhood pneumonia and diarrhoea. Convened in preparation for updating WHO technical guidance and guidelines, the meeting brought together experts, policy-makers, researchers and implementation partners to discuss findings from commissioned evidence syntheses on acute respiratory infections, pneumonia and diarrhoeal diseases in children. The report examines progress in reducing mortality, persistent gaps in coverage and access to essential interventions, and emerging challenges related to changing epidemiology, health system constraints and inequities in child health outcomes. Discussions focused on disease burden, aetiology, diagnosis, treatment, vaccination, antimicrobial resistance, community case management, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene interventions, and the needs of children beyond the under-five age group. The report outlines implications for future guideline development, programme implementation and research, emphasizing integrated primary health care approaches, risk-stratified management, strengthened service delivery and multisectoral action.
