Abstract

Description

The Regional Conference of Parliamentarians on Protecting Human Health from Climate Change was held in Thimphu, Bhutan from 5-7 October 2010. It was attended by parliamentarians from seven countries of the South-East Asia Region (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste). Several WHO staff from country offices, the Regional Office and Headquarters also participated in the conference. The conference was organized to create awareness amongst politicians on the health impacts of climate change and garner their support in addressing the health concerns in Member States. The conference concluded with the endorsement of the "Parliamentarians' Call for Action for Protecting Human Health from Climate change in the South-East Asia Region." This is a summary report of the meeting discussions and recommendations.
