dc.descriptionTuberculosis remains a major global public health challenge and a leading cause of death from a single infectious agent, with profound links to poverty, undernutrition, HIV infection and other social determinants. This report presents a concise, up-to-date assessment of the global tuberculosis epidemic and the response to it at global, regional and national levels, focusing on key findings and messages within the context of international commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals, the End TB Strategy and recent United Nations high-level meeting targets. It examines trends in disease burden, including incidence, mortality and drug-resistant tuberculosis, drawing on data reported by 192 countries and areas representing over 99% of the global population and TB cases. The report outlines key components of the response, including diagnosis and treatment, prevention and screening, financing, universal health coverage and determinants, and research and innovation. It highlights recovery in service delivery following COVID-19 disruptions alongside persistent gaps in case detection, access to quality care and funding, with major global targets for treatment, prevention and financing remaining unmet or off track. Intended for policymakers, programme managers and stakeholders, it underscores the need for strengthened multisectoral action, increased investment and accelerated implementation of effective interventions to advance progress towards ending the tuberculosis epidemic.
