| dc.description | This report reviews global progress in the prevention, control, elimination and eradication of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) during 2023–2024, marking 20 years since the establishment of the WHO Global Neglected Tropical Diseases Programme. It presents epidemiological and programmatic data aligned with the WHO road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030, including analysis of overarching, cross-cutting and disease-specific indicators, disease burden, mortality, prevalence, treatment coverage and financing trends. The report also examines progress under the road map pillars related to programmatic action, integrated approaches, country ownership, innovation, advocacy, health systems strengthening and multisectoral collaboration. The publication documents continued reductions in the global burden of NTDs, including decreases in the number of people requiring interventions, disability-adjusted life years and NTD-related deaths, alongside advances in elimination and eradication efforts in multiple countries. It highlights progress in access to medicines, diagnostics, surveillance, digital tools, capacity-building and integration of NTD services into national health systems. At the same time, it identifies persistent challenges related to climate change, humanitarian crises, weak surveillance systems, underreporting, inequities in access to care and declining official development assistance. The report emphasizes the need for sustained investment, stronger country ownership and integrated approaches to achieve the 2030 targets for NTDs. | |
