Abstract

Description

Africa produces a growing volume of research through universities, research institutes, government agencies, and cultural heritage organisations. Digital libraries and institutional repositories such as DSpace enable this knowledge to be preserved and shared openly. Artificial Intelligence offers new capabilities for discovery, automation, and user support. 2. Digital Libraries in Africa African digital libraries preserve theses, dissertations, journal articles, books, datasets, and indigenous knowledge while supporting teaching, learning, and research. 3. Applications of Artificial Intelligence AI can automate metadata creation, provide semantic search, recommend related resources, support African languages, and improve digital preservation. 4. Challenges Major challenges include limited ICT infrastructure, high internet costs, shortages of skilled personnel, copyright concerns, and insufficient investment.
