This regional summary presents the oral health situation in the WHO South-East Asia Region within the framework of the Global oral health status report and the global commitment to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) for oral health by 2030. It outlines the magnitude and distribution of oral diseases across the Region, emphasizing their growing public health burden, shared risk factors with other noncommunicable diseases, and disproportionate impact on disadvantaged populations. The publication also examines the consequences of oral diseases throughout the life course, their economic impact, inequities in access to oral health services and workforce shortages that limit the delivery of essential care. The report reviews the burden of the main oral diseases, including dental caries, severe periodontal disease, edentulism and oral cancer, and highlights regional trends and country-level variations. It identifies key governance, prevention and service delivery challenges while outlining opportunities to strengthen oral health through integrated policies, primary health care and health system reforms. The publication concludes with a regional road map to support implementation of WHO strategies aimed at improving prevention, expanding equitable access to essential oral health services and advancing universal health coverage for oral health by 2030.
