This WHO global summary compiles data reported by Member States on vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization programmes for the period 1980–2009. Produced through the WHO/UNICEF Joint Reporting Form, it presents global and regional information on national immunization coverage, reported disease incidence, immunization schedules, and indicators of immunization system performance. The publication describes the methods used to estimate national, regional and global immunization coverage, including the integration of official country reports, survey findings and expert review, and explains the principles applied to address incomplete or inconsistent data while ensuring comparability across countries and over time.
