The Trenčín Statement on Prisons and Mental Health was adopted at the WHO International Meeting on Prisons and Health in Trenčín, Slovakia on 18 October 2007. The meeting was organized in close cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health of Slovakia, and was co-sponsored by the WHO Collaborating Centre on Health in Prisons, Department of Health, United Kingdom and the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, United Kingdom. The delegates took as the basis of their discussions the fundamental international standards relating to the need for the provision of health care to those with mental health problems in prison.
