Abstract

Description

iv, 72 p.
This web annex accompanies the WHO consolidated guidelines on tuberculosis. Module 3: diagnosis – rapid diagnostics for tuberculosis detection, 2021 update and has been published to support transparency in accordance with the WHO handbook for guideline development. It presents the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) evidence profiles that informed the guideline recommendations on rapid diagnostic technologies for tuberculosis. The annex compiles structured GRADE tables covering a range of diagnostic approaches, including Xpert MTB/RIF, Xpert Ultra, Truenat assays, moderate- and low-complexity automated nucleic acid amplification tests, lateral flow urine lipoarabinomannan assays, first- and second-line line probe assays, and high-complexity reverse hybridization-based nucleic acid amplification tests. For each diagnostic question, the document summarizes evidence on test accuracy and relevant clinical outcomes, reports certainty of the evidence, identifies factors influencing evidence quality such as risk of bias, indirectness, inconsistency and imprecision, and provides supporting explanations and references for the underlying assessments.
