Abstract

Description

94 p.
This teacher’s guide, developed by WHO and UNICEF under the Helping Adolescents Thrive initiative, accompanies the “Magnificent Mei and Friends” comic series and supports the promotion of adolescent mental health in educational settings. Targeted at teachers and other professionals working with adolescents aged 10–14 years, the guide provides structured resources to strengthen social and emotional skills that contribute to psychosocial well-being, prevent mental health conditions, and reduce engagement in risky behaviours. The publication combines background information on mental health with practical guidance and classroom-based lesson plans. It addresses key concepts such as adolescent development, risk and protective factors, and the importance of mental health promotion and prevention. It also outlines essential approaches for teachers, including effective communication, fostering supportive relationships, managing their own well-being, and identifying when students require additional support. The guide emphasizes the role of schools in creating safe and supportive environments and uses interactive activities linked to the comic narrative to facilitate learning, emotional awareness and problem-solving among adolescents.
