This web annex presents evidence summaries from systematic reviews assessing the effectiveness, economic effectiveness and acceptability of comprehensive school health services (SHS) to inform the WHO guideline on school health services. It synthesizes findings from non-randomized controlled studies and observational research conducted in a range of settings, examining the impact of school-based health centres and school nursing services on health, educational and service-related outcomes among school-age children and adolescents. The annex summarizes evidence on critical outcomes, including suicide-related behaviours, hospitalizations, emergency department visits, school attendance and academic progress, together with important outcomes related to health behaviours, quality of life, school engagement and responsiveness to students’ health needs. The publication also reviews evidence on the economic effectiveness and acceptability of comprehensive SHS from the perspectives of students, parents, teachers and service providers. For each review, it provides concise summaries of study characteristics, intervention components, key findings and risk-of-bias assessments, supported by forest plots and evidence tables. The annex serves as a transparent evidence resource underpinning the recommendations in the WHO guideline and documents the strength and scope of the available evidence on comprehensive school health services.
