dc.descriptionThe high-level conference Promoting intersectoral and interagency action for health and well-being in the WHO European Region: working together for better health and well-being was held in Paris, France on 7–8 December 2016. The conference brought together the health, education and social sectors with the overall aim of strengthening intersectoral cooperation and joint action in the WHO European Region and fostering better and more equal health and well-being and improved social outcomes for children, adolescents and their families. It also served as a starting point and first key step in establishing a platform for exchange of good policy and practice on these issues. There was consensus that the health sector, in partnership with welfare and education, has a leading role to play in supporting parents and caregivers to foster nurturing relationships with their children and create empowered and resilient communities, and that transformative policies and actions are needed to deliver better lives and a healthier younger generation. The conference culminated in the adoption of the Paris Declaration “Partnerships for the health and well-being of our young and future generations” as well as a proposal for the establishment of an ad hoc regional platform for working together for better health and well-being for all.
