This article presents the World Health Organization’s recommendations for the composition of influenza virus vaccines to be used during the 2025–2026 northern hemisphere influenza season. Based on evidence reviewed during the February 2025 technical consultation, it summarizes global influenza activity from September 2024 through January 2025, including the geographic distribution of influenza A and B viruses, circulating subtypes and lineages, and reported zoonotic influenza infections. The report also reviews virological surveillance findings from the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System and describes regional patterns of virus circulation. The document assesses the genetic and antigenic characteristics of recently circulating influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, A(H3N2) and B/Victoria lineage viruses, human serological data, and antiviral susceptibility. These findings are used to evaluate the suitability of candidate vaccine viruses and to support recommendations for vaccine strain selection. The report concludes with the recommended virus composition for egg-based, cell culture-based and recombinant protein vaccines intended for use in the 2025–2026 northern hemisphere influenza season, providing the scientific basis for national and regional decisions on influenza vaccine formulation.
