dc.descriptionThis executive summary presents the principal findings of the Global report on neglected tropical diseases 2023 and reviews progress during 2021–2022 towards the targets established in the WHO road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030. It outlines global efforts to prevent, control, eliminate and eradicate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, and examines trends in disease burden, treatment coverage, elimination achievements and implementation of integrated interventions. The document analyses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on NTD programmes, including disruptions to preventive chemotherapy campaigns, health services and supply chains, as well as challenges related to funding, climate change, poverty and uneven progress across endemic countries. The summary highlights reductions in the number of people requiring interventions against NTDs and continued progress in disease elimination in multiple countries.
