This book’s contemporary evidence, insights and recommendations on nurs¬ing come at a pivotal moment. Across Europe, health systems are facing the combined pressures of an ageing population, growing complexity in care needs, and rising political expectations to improve outcomes – whilst also confront¬ing a severe shortage of nurses and waning interest among young people in entering the profession. The European nursing workforce stands at a crossroads. Educational and pro¬fessional models are struggling to adapt, and regulatory frameworks often fall short of empowering nurses to practice to their full potential. Under-resourced systems, excessive workloads and inadequate support have led to unprecedented levels of physical and emotional burnout. At the same time, diminishing com-mitments to decent working conditions are pushing many nurses to leave the profession altogether. If left unchecked, these trends threaten to deepen Europe’s nursing crisis. The chapters in this book address these challenges with data, clarity and pur¬pose. Drawing on key elements of health labour market analysis, the authors illuminate the diversity and complexity of nursing education, regulation and practice across Europe.
