This web annex accompanies the second edition of the Guidance for national tuberculosis programmes on the management of tuberculosis in children and compiles the evidence summaries that informed the development and updating of WHO recommendations. It presents the evidence reviewed by the expert panel, drawing on literature published from 2010 onwards together with relevant WHO policy statements and systematic reviews. The document supports a transparent and evidence-based guideline development process by summarizing the quality, consistency and applicability of the available evidence underpinning recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment and management of tuberculosis in children. The annex includes structured evidence tables and panel assessments covering key topics such as the use of Xpert MTB/RIF for pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis, interferon-gamma release assays, commercial serodiagnostic tests, routine HIV testing, treatment regimens, preventive therapy, drug-resistant tuberculosis and HIV-associated tuberculosis in children. It summarizes findings from primary studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, highlighting methodological strengths and limitations, quality assessments, and considerations relating to diagnostic accuracy, clinical effectiveness, feasibility and implementation.
