The European Technical Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (ETAGE) meets twice a year to review the progress of the Targeted Diseases and Immunization (TDI) and Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation (SAM) Teams, formerly the Vaccine-preventable Diseases and Immunization Programme (VPI), towards the European Regional disease prevention goals. The eighth meeting of ETAGE took place on 8−9 October 2008 at the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Discussions focused on the progress towards the 2010 regional measles and rubella elimination goals, the introduction of new vaccines, vaccine-preventable disease surveillance and strengthening the national advisory committees on immunization (NACIs). ETAGE also endorsed the Regional Office’s strategic plan for Targeted Diseases and Immunization for 2008−2013.
