| dc.description | This implementation guidance provides evidence-informed recommendations for integrating social and behaviour change (SBC) interventions into contraception and family planning programmes. Developed for policymakers and programme managers, the document outlines the rationale for using SBC approaches to improve reproductive health outcomes and support rights-based family planning. It examines how behavioural, interpersonal, social and structural factors influence contraceptive decision-making and use, and describes how SBC interventions can address barriers such as stigma, misinformation, provider bias, inequitable gender norms and limited access to information and services. The guidance emphasizes human rights, gender responsiveness, people-centred approaches, and equity and inclusion, particularly for underserved populations. The publication reviews evidence on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of SBC interventions across multiple levels of the socioecological model and discusses their contribution to health system strengthening and FP2030 commitments. It also presents practical processes for designing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and scaling SBC interventions using participatory and evidence-based approaches. Specific guidance is provided on behavioural analysis, intervention adaptation, use of routine data, monitoring indicators and scaling strategies to support sustainable and contextually appropriate contraceptive and family planning programmes. | |
