This monitoring and evaluation framework provides operational guidance for managers of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases control programmes to support progress towards elimination of these diseases as public health problems. Developed in line with the World Health Organization neglected tropical diseases road map 2021–2030, the manual outlines approaches for monitoring epidemiological trends, adapting preventive chemotherapy strategies and assessing programme impact. It describes the morbidity associated with schistosome and soil-transmitted helminth infections, identifies groups at highest risk, and reviews complementary interventions including water, sanitation and hygiene measures, environmental controls and One Health approaches. The publication presents a phased framework for programme implementation, ranging from baseline assessment and scale-up activities to impact evaluation, maintenance and post-validation surveillance. It defines epidemiological, process and performance indicators, and provides guidance on diagnostic methods, survey design, sentinel surveillance and interpretation of prevalence and infection intensity data. The manual also discusses strategies for adapting treatment frequency according to changing epidemiological conditions and emphasizes the importance of sustained surveillance to prevent recrudescence and maintain programme achievements.
