This web annex summarizes the methodology and selected findings of a global survey of expert opinion undertaken to inform the WHO guideline on school health services. The survey sought to assess the suitability of potential interventions for inclusion within school health services (SHS) by consulting experts from diverse professional backgrounds and geographic regions. It describes the development, piloting, translation and administration of a multilingual questionnaire covering 86 potential interventions across 16 health areas, together with the procedures used for participant selection, data collection and quantitative and qualitative analysis. The annex presents selected findings on interventions considered essential for inclusion in SHS worldwide, those regarded as essential only in specific geographic settings, those viewed as unsuitable, and additional interventions proposed by respondents. Health promotion and health education interventions were most frequently identified as essential everywhere, while the highest-ranked clinical interventions related to immunization, screening, assessment and general care. The survey found broad support for the inclusion of most proposed interventions, with little variation across WHO regions or professional groups, providing complementary expert evidence to support the development of recommendations in the parent WHO guideline.
