Abstract
Description
Adolescents constitute an important social anddemographic group in the WHO South-East AsiaRegion, accounting for almost one fifth of the totalpopulation of the Region. The failure to recognizeand address mental health problems in childrenand adolescents is a serious public health problemin the context of Sustainable Development Goals(SDG 3.4 and 3.5). Mental health conditions suchas depression, anxiety or other conditions maylead to behavioural problems such as tobacco, alcohol and drug use. The multi-directionallinkages between mental health conditions andother health, educational, social and developmentproblems call for evidence for action in this area. This publication, is a step towards building anevidence base to facilitate informed policy andprogrammatic actions by the WHO Regional Officefor South-East Asia.
