This report summarizes the proceedings, discussions and recommendations of the fourth meeting of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Antimicrobial Resistance (STAG-AMR), held in Geneva from 11 to 13 June 2024. The meeting reviewed progress in WHO’s global response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), examined implementation of the Global Action Plan on AMR and national action plans, and assessed strategic priorities for addressing AMR within the human health sector through a One Health approach. Participants included STAG-AMR members, WHO headquarters, regional and country office staff, and observers. Particular attention was given to preparations for major international policy events in 2024, including the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR and the Fourth Global High-level Ministerial Meeting on AMR. The report presents updates from WHO headquarters, regional and country offices, and the WHO Collaborating Centres network, highlighting activities in surveillance, prevention and control, stewardship, governance, financing, awareness raising, research and multisectoral coordination. It documents discussions on accelerating political commitments, strengthening public engagement and communication, improving strategic information systems, and translating surveillance data into stewardship action. The report concludes with observations and recommendations from STAG-AMR aimed at supporting sustainable financing, stronger governance, enhanced accountability, improved implementation of national action plans, and greater integration of AMR interventions within health systems and broader public health initiatives.
