Abstract
Description

This web annex accompanies the WHO guideline for non-surgical management of chronic primary low back pain in adults in primary and community care settings and provides the Evidence-to-Decision (EtD) summaries developed for each intervention considered during guideline formulation. Prepared in accordance with the WHO handbook for guideline development, it presents structured summaries of the evidence on benefits and harms by comparator and age subgroup, together with the corresponding GRADE evidence profile tables. The annex also documents the judgements made by the Guideline Development Group across the EtD domains to support transparent and evidence-informed decision-making. The publication covers a broad range of non-surgical interventions, including education and advice, exercise, needling therapies, spinal manipulative therapy, massage, traction, therapeutic ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, lumbar supports, psychological interventions, pharmacological treatments, injectable local anaesthetics, herbal medicines, weight management and multicomponent biopsychosocial care. For each intervention, it summarizes evidence relating to benefits and harms, certainty of evidence, values and preferences, resource use, equity and human rights, acceptability and feasibility, providing a comprehensive record of the evidence assessments underpinning the WHO guideline recommendations.
