Abstract

Description

This meeting was a collaborative effort between the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia (WHO/SEARO) and Access to Clinical and Community Maternal, Neonatal and Women's Health Services (ACCESS Programme) in promoting evidence-based actions for maternal and neonatal health within the continuum of care that results in the best possible care at all levels from the household to the first-service level to the first referral level, as appropriate for each woman or newborn's needs spanning through the life's beginnings from before conception to childhood through pregnancy, childbirth and infancy. The report highlights the proceedings of the workshop that define the scope of a continuum of care for maternal and newborn health; the importance of paying special attention to hildbirth and the immediate postpartum period, and countries' experiences in promoting maternal and newborn health.
